How to relieve nasal congestion without nasal sprays

by , 15 August 2013

Nasal congestion or ‘stuffy nose' occurs when the nasal and adjacent tissues and blood vessels become swollen with excess fluid. This causes ‘stuffy' feeling, says the MayoClinic. While nasal sprays are commonly used to treat the problem, they offer little or no relief at all. Read on to discover an all natural approach to nasal congestion.

If you suffer from nasal congestion, otherwise known as a stuffy nose, you’ll know how annoying it can be. What’s even worse is nasal sprays aren’t that effective.

So what’s the best way to relieve nasal congestion?

According to Dr Jonathan Wright of Nutrition & Healing, the best way to eliminate nasal congestion is to determine what’s causing it.

“The most obvious cause of stuffiness is inhalant allergies, but food allergies can also play a role,” says Dr Wright. Infections such as colds, flu and sinusitis have also been linked to nasal congestion.

That’s why Dr Wright suggests you consult your doctor to help you find and treat the real culprit behind your nasal congestion problem.

But, in the meantime, Dr Wright recommends you use the natural sugar-alcohol: Xylitol to treat a stuffy nose.

Xylitol: Relief for that stuffy nose feeling

While xylitol is used as a nasal spray, the ingredients are all-natural and xylitol spray doesn’t carry the risks associated with over-the-counter nasal sprays.

What makes xylitol effective is it reduces the ability of allergens and germs to stick to the lining of your nose and sinuses. A spray or two as far as possible into your nostrils twice a day will offer some relief.

Regular use of xylitol nasal spray also results in fewer respiratory infections and easier breathing. You can buy a xylitol spray at your local health shop.
